Fitness Therapy Welcome to Fitness Therapy!

At least 1 in 5 people will suffer from depression at some point in their lives and as many as 1 in 4 people will suffer from anxiety at any one time.

Traditionally people with depression and anxiety are offered medication or counselling. Many people are unaware that there is another way… exercise. There is increasing evidence that a structured and supervised exercise programme can treat mild to moderate depression and anxiety as effectively as anti-depressants and counselling, particularly in the long-term. "Fitness Therapy is a unique and innovative programme based on clinical research. The enthusiastic team of Julie and Lizzie have combined their areas of expertise in fitness and psychology to provide a structured course of exercise and self help which I feel, through my work in primary care, has an important place in the management of mild to moderate depression and anxiety.

It should be encouraged by health professionals as an adjunct or alternative to the more traditional treatments."
